Cheat Better

Cheat Better

When we hear the word "Cheat," you may be thinking something terrible.... but relax. I'm not talking about cheating on your partner. Or cheating on tests... I'm talking about "cheating" on your diet!

We would say, "I'm on a strict diet, so no cheat day for me." Then you see those delicious cakes, pastries, ice creams, and your favorite pizza. Indulging in that yummy hamburger could be healthy, that is, if you know how to do it right.

  • The first thing on our list is don't get monopolized by guilt. According to Bannan, "It feeds into the concept of foods being 'good' or 'bad' or worse, relates your food choices to you as a person being 'good' or 'bad.'" To avoid eating monstrous portions of your favorite foods, try a miniature version every day and take the time to enjoy it.
  • Cheating within a diet plan involves giving yourself calculated and planned permission to temporarily break from your diet rules. Wherein you allow yourself brief periods of indulgence. But this can also lead to falling out from your plan. Don't turn a cheat meal into a cheat day. It turns to cheat week, turn to cheat month. It's not ideal for swaying away from your strict diet, especially if you're on your road to you're trying to conceive. Indulging occasionally may be acceptable, but please do it smartly. Don't justify to yourself that this is only this time, and then as you know it, it turns out you're doing it for the next few days, which turns into a week and, worst, turns into a month! It is always our self-discipline that will get us to our goal. Remember, you wanted to have optimal fertility to conceive.
  • Don't go into an indulgent meal all-out starving. If friends invited you for lunch or dinner, it might be helpful to eat first, at least small amounts of your regular nutritional foods, before heading out. So that when you see the food being served, you will not munch too much on them. Indulge, but do it smartly.
  • Determine what you're craving and make it healthier. Foods nowadays could be substituted with something healthy. Ask your holistic fertility expert about foods that might have healthy alternatives that could also satisfy your cravings.
  • Don't smoke. Smoking is associated with lower fertility. Smoking ages your ovaries and depletes your oocyte quality.
  • Total avoidance of alcohol intake. Drinking is associated with an increased risk of ovulation disorders.
  • Do not over-exercise. Too much exercise can inhibit ovulation and reduce the production of the hormone progesterone.

Does cheating actually work? Not everyone will respond the same way to the same strategies. The best diet plan is the one you can stick to. If you cheat too often, you will find yourself back where you have started.

In one way or the other, cheating is never a good idea. If you want to achieve something, be firm in getting it, especially if you wish for optimal fertility. It's never easy to follow a strict diet. But with willpower, we could do it.
